This is why and adjustable advance light is helpful. If you want to set the timing to anything else, your out of luck on markings. 7o advance, and TDC (although my experience is that this line is hard to see ). The problem with cruiser timing is that there are only 2 marks on the flywheel. You obviously have to adjust the distributor to change the timing. If your BB and line are out of sight, you can move the knob until you see them. You're right, spinning the distributor isn't that hard, but if you're just trying to get an idea of what's going on with your timing, the knob makes it real easy to see what's up. How would spinning the knob on the timing gun change the timming when you still would have to twist the distributor to change it right? Sorry, I have never done this and a little confused. Is twisting the distributor really that bad? I read that all you have to do is loosen the clamp and twist it. Much easier than twisting the distributor.
